problems with prefix bootstrap on OSX Leopard

Hi all - Having some trouble bootstrapping a gentoo prefix install on OSX 10.5.2 with Xcode 3. The trouble begins here:

Code:
./bootstrap-prefix.sh $EPREFIX/tmp grep


this results in a lot of errors, including
Code:
 ld: symbol(s) not found


So, I continue in spite of the error since I found a gnu grep on my system already. the other packages install without problems. Then when I come to emerge sed, the emerge command spits out a bunch of (python?) errors, including
Code:
IndexError: list index out of range


Any idea what's wrong?

you could try to remove macports (or fink, etc.) from your path and try again
