[ADVICE ON GAMEPAD/JOYSTICK] to play UrbanTerror

Hi Guys,

Just installed Urban Terror in my PC. First time in those universes... wow.
I m just CRAP.
But the keyboard is not totally useful, so I wondered 3 things:

- what do you use to play such games? (keyboard, joystick, gamepad?)
- do you know a nice interface (wireless, better) I could use to play such games, EASILY configurable with my gentoo box (please tell me the changes in make.conf etc, I found once an how to on joysticks, but still, I wnated to know which ones you use and we all know are supported)
- i watch TV from my PC. DVB-T. The RC is crappy... Do you think I could (easily again) configure the joystick to use it as a RC?

(It would be great for the joystick to be cordless, but without batteries (maybe some kind of phone/ipod cells would be great)
(won t there be conflicts between the 2 apps?)
(is it better a USB pad or a JOYSTICK-CONNECTION one? i don t have too many USB free in my computer... I don t know if via the sound card plug (joystck) it could be ok, ... and I doubt if this would work cordless without USB)


Another last question: with a joystick, you can go LEFT, RIGHT, BACKWARDS, FORWARD. OK. But can you "rotate" along the vertical axis (like to look left, right, etc..)?

Joystick? To play an FPS?

Are you serious?

Does your computer not have a mouse?

edit: joysticks are virtually all HID. Virtually any joystick or gamepad will work in linux. I'm not sure if urban terror supports them though - I'm pretty sure quake III, whose engine urban terror uses, didn't. Although, I haven't played quake III in years and have never played urban terror, nor have I ever actually tried to use a joystick in an fps.

well, there's always the nostromo, i don't know what that would technically be called.

"Gaming peripheral"

With a nostromo you'd still need a mouse in your right hand though.
