the mplayer does not appear in kmenu itself.
command line mplayer works.
the old version shows up in menu but now i have some problem getting it started.
will try again to emerge it.

Try one of the graphical frontends, such as smplayer, gnome-mplayer, kmplayer. They are better than mplayer's own gtk gui anyway.

Hi!

I'm sorry, that doesn't solve the problem. For me the graphical frontend of MPlayer is better than the mentioned alternatives.
After my latest update, the mplayer disappered in the menu of XFCE, however, when I start it from the shell, there is no problem. Doesn't look like a serious problem for me. Unfortunately I couldn't find the error yet.

Regards,
Marc.

EDIT:

Ok, there is no mplayer.desktop file created in /usr/share/applications. If you simply copy one and amend it according to MPlayer, it will work.

Marc.

mplayer only has vedio equalizer like contrast brightness etc.
the other players work ok but minus this facility.
cli invoked mplayer does not have any controls except in cli.
that is a big disadvantage when the videos are of different contrast cameras .

can we add gtk useflag and get the gui back?
there is no equivalent featured player replacement for mplayer!

Same things for me too - what are we to put inside the mplayer.desktop file to get it back?

smplayer also has an equalizer - try it! it's really good.

yes it has all properties of mplayer. :)
only we have to set the menu in preference.
thanks yngwin

adding gtk useflag for mplayer did not help.
the right click of mouse is disabled in the mplayer window started from cli.

It is. It's just a different (and better) graphical frontend for mplayer. "Under the hood" it's still mplayer.

Here is my mplayer.dektop:
Quote:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=MPlayer
Comment=Video Player
Exec=gmplayer
MimeType=video/mpeg;video/quicktime;video/x-msvideo;video/x-anim;audio/x-mp3;audio/x-mp2;
#Icon=
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application;AudioVideo;Player;

It is maybe not perfect, but works.

Ciao,
Marc.

Unfortunately, it requires the installation of 40+ MB and concomitant compile time of Qt4. That's a deal-breaker for me, as I don't use KDE.

i have installed kde4 also.
so i did not notice smplayer calling qt4
it did 1 of 1 emerge for smplayer.
it works great
it needs mplayer to be emerged with png useflag
all of them depend on mplayer basically so it is same or better.

To make mplayer reappear in any menus, including icon, unpack the mplayer package from
/usr/ports/distfiles (mplayer-1.0_rc2_p26753) and take a look at the etc directory. You'll find
both the mplayer.desktop file (copy to /usr/share/applications) and mplayer.xpm (copy to
/usr/share/pixmaps).

I mean unpack the source package and copy the files from it to where they belong.

i have had problem with things not showing up on kmenu, i run the program from the run command (not the command line) and/or logout and back in and i would find it in a menu of lost items, then i move it to where it should go... i would also try edit the menu entry of the old menu item or renaming it.

hopefully this may help :)

menu appearing is not the only problem.
in command line mplayer file.mpg works fine. no right click on the screen or any controls shown. just the video window but resizable with drag.
from run command mplayer does not start. as no gui is present.
if it can work from run kmenu can add it to menu.
the gui is the problem.

Princess Nell

just tar mplayer-xxx in a folder will do?
i can try it.

The Problem is simple: The "gtk" Useflag is ignored and no GUI will be builded. Pls post only suggestion to the GUI problem, not to any other GUIs. We know them but we dont want them ;) Thank you for your attention.
