Ok, i just got a Creative Nomad MuVo the other day, and i finally got usb working with it. It basically is a usb flash drive that has a built in mp3 player when you plug it into the case. It gets recognized as /dev/sda1, and i usually mount it under /mnt/nomad, with an fstab entry like so
Code:
#Muvo MP3 Player
/dev/sda1               /mnt/nomad      vfat            noauto,rw,user          0 0

Now, the drive will mount fine, but when i unmount it, it hangs and won't ever unmount, no matter how long i let it be. Only when i unplug it does it return a success. I also have hotplug installed and in my default run-level. This wouldn't be a problem, except that everytime i unplug it, the filesystem on the player gets corrupt, and only about 3 or less songs will actually play on the system. When i remount the drive after this happens, there are only those 3 songs there, when i put on about 20 before. I hope this is making some sense, but basically i can't unmount the drive or else the songs get screwed up. I have used this drive in SuSE over at my friends house, and it works fine with suse, mounting and unmounting, so I guess theres something wrong with my configuration or something, but i have no clue where to start. Post please if you have any insight, as i would like to start jamming :)

[edit]
I also have 2.4.20-gaming-sources kernel installed, with i think all the right options for usb and mass storage
[/edit]

Have you tried remaking the filesystem, mkfs.vfat (dosfstools pkg)? I had a similar problem awhile back with mine and it turned out the filesystem had gotten corrupted. It's worked perfectly since...

Careful with that, some muvo devices claim that if they are formatted with the "windows format command" it will fail.

I sugges you first try the program that came along with it, if you have windows. If it doesnt do the trick try mkfs.vfat on it.

I was just browsing their site and didn't realize they had all those new MuVo models. I have an original 128Mb MuVo, now I'm quite jealous :?. LCDs, up to 1Gb flash models, USB 2.0 support...damn. I suppose simplicity is bliss, less shit to break.

EDIT: I just noticed snakattak3 post this Jul. 2003, I think he has figured this out a long time ago.

I never even tried the stock headphones, got a decent pair of Senheisers. Must be USB 2.0 because mine takes forever to download to, oh well...

I got some pretty serious sony earbuds, they were $40 US, but they are definately worth it. My first pair broke, but Best Buy hooked up another pair.

snakattak3, I know this post is almost 2 years old but just in case you still haven't gotten it working here's something you can try. In your fstab or in the mount command you're using add the sync option. This, I think, makes sure that commands don't finish until they are done transferring the file. When I tried using cp before I had the sync option it would appear to copy 13 mp3s instantaneously but in actuality the transfer would still be occurring in the background without the cp command even running. When I went to umount I suppose it was waiting for the transfer to actually finish, and since I didn't know this I'd pull the drive out completely corrupting the filesystem. Now with the sync option I know it's done when cp is done.
