When I want to open *.ps file I get following message from kghostview:

Code:

Unknown device: x11
Unrecoverable error: undefined in .uninstallpagedevice
Operand stack:
    defaultdevice
Unknown device: x11
Unrecoverable error: undefined in .uninstallpagedevice
Operand stack:
    defaultdevice

My config is:
Code:

-sDEVICE=x11 -dTextAlphaBits=4 -dGraphicsAlphaBits=2 -dMaxBitmap=10000000

The best part of it is that friend of mine has the same configuration and kghostview runs without any problems...

I have no idea what shall I do ...

//EDIT:

I also tried to open this file with: gv, ggv, evince, but in this programs file look like blank.

did you try different .ps files? maybe the problem is the file?
do you have the same USE-flags as your friend?
please post the output of
Code:
emerge -av kghostview

Code:

# emerge -pv kghostview

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies ... done!
[ebuild   R   ] kde-base/kghostview-3.5.9  USE="-arts -debug -kdeenablefinal -xinerama" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

The file is good. I converted to *.pdf and I can view it. But it doesn't solve problem.

have you tried to remerge kghostview and its dependencies?
maybe revdep-rebuild solves your problem..

I've done revdeb-rebuild and nothing changes.

I installed other programs to read *.ps files like: gv, ggv, evince, but with this programs doesn't work too.

Maybe it is 'global' problem with system configuration?

i searched a bit and now i think you should remerge ghostscript...

jychen...@gmail.com wrote:
OK, I figured out the how.....

I re-compiled ghostscript source code and then installed it.
everything starts working fine.

My guess:
The ghostscript package was first installed when X11 was not installed
yet. Re-compile gives a chance for ghostscript to automatically
detect that X is available so to turn X11 device on.
