See my previous post on this matter, and larrys reply. Basicly the bins are compiled with r3, and seem to be incompatible with r6.

Just a note about the bin incompatibility.

I've done some testing on my box, and it seems that bins packaged with r3 wont work on r6, but bins packages on r6 will work with r3 and r6.

Strange stuff.

I've started a thread about this here.

I donwloaded and ran the kde-cvs shell script again.

2 things:

1. It fails on the md5sum. Had to turn off the option.

2. KDEBUILDARCH="kde-cvs-bin-20030916"
This is also incorrect, should not be 20030916 but 20030926

Changed the above and it installed fine.

Yeah, larry forgot to change KDEBUILDARCH, and I messed up on the md5 section.

kbin-installer-5d.sh is a fixed version.

Hey iamlarryboy,

I've been meaning to thank you for the CUPS use flag. It works great, and there's now nothing for me to complain about. Keep up the great work.

KDM is broken at the moment. Does anyone know how to setup xdm so I can log in? I've tried putting startkde & in ~/.xsession, but I get errors in .xsession-errors.

I really want to have a normal KDE, not just a konqueror in TWM 8O

EDIT: I've solved the problem by creating a symlink ~/.xsession -> ~/.xinitrc and putting exec /etc/X11/Sessions/kde-5 in .xinitrc

EDIT 2: The FSView Konqueror plugin is great! Here's a screenshot.

Just using GDM works too. I think it would be cool if GDM and KDM could both use the xml themes.

So what is the difference between the KDE-3.2 preview in portage and the KDE-CVS?

Is the CVS version simply updated more frequently?

I am thinking I would like to try KDE out.

The current build is nearly identical to the alpha2 available in portage. However, my builds follow CVS-HEAD. So I will have builds from inbetween alpha1/2/3 beta 1/2 etc. Provided of course that the CVS source actually compiles.

However, I am really looking forward to the release of 3.2. Because, then We get to follow HEAD on the exciting path to 4.0 woot!

Could you upload a fixed version of the script?
I didn't manage to install the latest version even after changing the 16 to 26 and disabling the md5 check

Code:
*** Unpacking archive kde-cvs-bin-20030926.tar.gz to /tmp/kde-cvs-bin
*** Emergeing: qt
Calculating dependencies \
!!! Problem in x11-libs/qt dependencies.
!!! 'in <string>' requires character as left operand
*** Emerge encountered an error, aborting...

(Besides that one problem, great job with these ebuilds 8) )

I think there was a problem with the updated script in addition to the datestamp. Try redownloading the script from my site. If you still have problems please let me know and we will try to work it out asap.

I've got the problem with KDM still, any idea how to fix it. I can't use GDM either, since it won't work with mye xfree 4.3.99.13 :/

Also, my Diablo 2 (via winex) started acting up after installing the newest cvs. I can't get the mouse to the top of the screen, it justs stops an inch from it. and if i point to the right side or the bottom the cursor gets "stuck" as in it doesn't seem to move, but If I move it around it suddenly appears somewhere else.

The problem is with portage, not the script. There was an issue with the 0.5c (sorry about that ) version of the installer, but there are no problems with 0.5d afaik. If there is, please let us know so we can fix it :)

However, there is a problem with portage and binary incompatiblilty. See my previous posts in this thread on the matter.

Basicly, you have the files, the md5 is fine, and the script is telling portage to emerge the binary, but emerge bails with that error so the script bails as well..

In short, downgrade to the r3 version of portage. The builds are packaged with portage r3 (2.0.49-r3) and wont work with r6.

New builds. Get them at the usual [url=iamlarryboy.dyndns.org]place[/url].

Todays features:
A working :-) md5 checking script (thanks to ForumSlacker)

Note: These builds build with slightly more than usual USE flags. This was due to me updating the build environment to all the latest packages and me forgetting to modify use.defaults

[EDIT]
my bad, the proxy wasn't updating, probably too similar...

Regarding broken KDM: I disabled xdm completely (rc-update del xdm default), and put the following in ~/.xinitrc:
Code:
$ cat .xinitrc
#!/bin/bash

exec /etc/X11/Sessions/kde-5

Now, typing startx starts KDE.

Regarding the new builds: it's nice to see that Konqueror's text selecting speed has been fixed. If only someone could debug Qt's font resizing problem (Courier tiny from 2-12pts, large at 13+), KDM borkage, and aRTs (via ALSA) muting my front speakers on startup...
