glxgears faster on kubuntu than gentoo??

I've been mucking around with kubuntu, (to see what the fuss is about and try some new things without messing with my gentoo installation), and I thought I would compare some benchmarks.

Running glxgears gets:
~9300 fps on gentoo and ~9900 fps on kubuntu.

If I put the terminal over the gears I get:
~16000 fps on Gentoo and 16800 fps on kubuntu.

I would have though gentoo would be faster?


Same PC, same HDD. I haven't compared version numbers but both up to date systems. intel q6600 nvidia 7600GT.

Nothing is really broken, but I am just curious if my system is non-optimal. I have been using gentoo for a few years but I have never really player around with system optimisation.

Any ideas? What information should I look at to see?
