Which ones did you choose? I know you can change them- but ideally I would get it right the first time. Also, I think I have too many selected already. I selected all the ones that sounded like something I might use.
Any suggestions? |

Could you please post the output of emerge --info?
Also, what type of environment do you want to install? (ie. a kde environment, gnome environment, or another one) There are some general ones which might be a good start.
Code: | USE="audiofile alsa cdr dvd dvdr flac gif hal jpeg midi mmx mpeg mp3 ogg png vorbis tiff" |
will give your system basic sound and graphics support (and cd/dvd support with the helpful HAL support). _________________

The best thing to do is use the defaults and change them as you go along. You'll never get them right first time.
Tips:
Add "-vat" to your emerge commands to see what USE flags each package has and why packages are being pulled in (what depends on them). You can set these permanently using DEFAULT_EMERGE_OPTS in /etc/make.conf (see /etc/make.conf.example)
You can find out what a given USE flag does using the euse utility from the gentoolkit package. eg. To find out what the server USE flag does: euse -i server |
