I somewhere read about a possibility to play wideo files without having X installed over framebuffer support or something. I don't know exactly where that was. Does any of you have any hints/howtows/ideas?

Ah, thanks a lot, I'll try... But an "emerge -p mplayer" gives me this out although I have -X -gtk -qt in my use-flag...

You could try 'emerge -i' for X and all that. |

try to see which USE flags are being used and try turning a few of them off. It is likely that you have arts (requires qt, which requires xfree) and/or gnome in your USE and that Code: | USE="-arts -gnome" emerge -pv mplayer | will show a much shorter list.
