|
|
I am wondering if it would be possible to use Gentoo to act as a proxy to proxy connections inbound from each DSL gateway to another computer on the network. This is what I am trying to accomplish:
1 Computer encoding 5 streams on different ports.
External Web Server contacts the software via one of 5 dsl lines.
On each DSL line I have a router setup for port forwarding to the computer for each of the ports. The problem I am seeing though is dealing with default gateways. If you come inbound from Router 1, and the computer is set as a default route through Router 2, the connection is lost because the computer is attempting to respond via the default router instead of which router it can from. This is preventing the lines from being used the way I would like them to be. However, this is a mixed OS network and the encoding software will only run on windows so I was hoping perhaps Gentoo could be used as a proxy server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi.
I would suggest you to check lartc.
It seems this example might help you. _________________ Jorge.

Something that may conflict is that the board I am using does not have 5 seperate NICs on them. It goes: DSL Line > DSL Modem > Linksys Router > 10/100mb Switch x 5 and then the server would be plugged into the switch as well. The diagrams seem to represent having 2 hardware NICs.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Also, the 5 DSL lines are all provided through Verizon Business DSL and each have the same gateway, just different external IPs. |

Can you please make a diagram of this configuration? It seems you're talking about 5 ethernet connections, but then you say 5 dsl lines. _________________ Jorge.

I have a URL of the network setup here: http://justinmccormick.com/Network.jpg
To try to clarify, the WebServer will connect down through a specific DSL line to request a resource from the encoder. There are 5 different resources on the encoder, which is why there are 5 DSL lines (5 DSL lines with 728k up is cheaper than one T1). Unfortunately these servers are Windows (freelancer, not my choice) but I am an avid user of Gentoo and was hoping a solution could be found. |

If that's a switch between the enconding server and the linksys routers, you could put a box between the switch and the server and configure it as the example I've linked to.
If you can't put a box (router) between the server and the linksys, you would need to be able to configure the linksys boxes - openwrt could help. _________________ Jorge.
