world update - gmyth fails to compile

I am trying to update my system (~amd64) with emerge -uvD world and the package gmyth is failing to compile with the error that it can't find mysql_config. I have installed the dev-db/mysql and verified mysql_config is at /usr/bin/mysql_config. Here is the error:

have you checked the config.log to see what it says?

Have you run revdep-rebuild lately? It's in gentoolkit and it's worth a shot if things don't work well.

You probably need to reinstall mysql or upgrade it. It may need a specific version.
