|
|
Hi, all...
When I print this, I get this as a result. I have no explanation for the red overlay involving portions of the page.
If I use a windoz machine but the same printer, I get a correct color rendering. If I try a second gentoo box also with the same printer, I get the same red overlay.
My printer is an HP Color LaserJet 2840. The driver I'm using in CUPS is:
HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series Postscript (recommended)
I'm interested if someone would mind printing that same pdf on their machine using a different printer and let me know if they experience a similar problem with red color in the output?
Also, does anyone know what may be going on?
Thanks!! _________________ "Primum non nocere" ---Galen

I don't recall having ever changed it from the default.

my cups.conf looks the same...
try to reconfigure your printer with the cups web interface and post your printers.conf...
which version of cups are you using? if you are not using the newest version in portage then update.

If you are running cups in your local machine, open your browser(eg. firefox) and type in url Code: | http://localhost:631 | That is your cups web interface.
Can you give more information on which program you are using to print the pdf? There is possibility that it is your pdf viewer problem. |

You could try installing hplip and use the drivers provided by hpijs (if there are any). hp-setup will help you in setting up your printer. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

That's the way I've always set up printers for use with cups.
My PDF viewer, which gives the problem is Code: | equery list acroread
[ Searching for package 'acroread' in all categories among: ]
* installed packages
[I--] [ -] app-text/acroread-8.1.2-r2 (0)
|
As an incidental note, I tried scanning a jpg image of the pdf file and then printing the jpg. This gave me an accurate reproduction, without the red overlays, although the resolution was not as good. This may be erroneous thinking, but it leads me to believe the acroread pdf reader, is most likely at fault. Is there an alternative reader to try?

OK, I already emerged net-print/hplip-2.7.10, and tried using HP-Color_LaserJet_2800-Postscript.ppd.gz but this fails, giving the following error message: Quote: | Printer queue setup failed.
Please restart CUPS and try again. |
Where to from here?

- kde-base/kpdf
- app-text/evince
- app-text/xpdf

restart cups with:
Code: | /etc/init.d/cupsd restart |
i have hplip installed but i install the printer through the cups web interface...
be sure to delete your current printer before you install a new one...
as device choose something like (set the right for your printer model):
Code: | HP DeskJet D1400 series USB TH7B23154C04Y2 HPLIP (HP DeskJet D1400 series) |
as make:
as model/driver something like:
Code: | HP DeskJet D1400 Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.5.23 (en) |
that works for me
if you start hp device manager (command is 'hp-toolbox') it should show your newly installed printer
you could also try the latest unstable hplip version, which is 2.8.5....
if you dont know how to unmask the unstable version:
add
to your /etc/portage/package.keywords file and emerge hplip

That was the key piece of advice! After deleting the printer in CUPS, and trying (unsuccessfully) to come up with a better driver, I reinstalled the printer with exactly the same driver as previously. Now, acroread prints the problematic PDF file, without error, using any of the 3 gentoo boxes on my LAN.
Go figure!
The problem's completely resolved with regard to printing!!
My next issue to tackle will be getting HP Toolbox to work, so I can begin scanning...
Thanks, potatoface, for helping me through this! _________________ "Primum non nocere" ---Galen |
