For some reason every time I log in I'm getting "id: cannot find name for user ID 508" when I log in to my box...
mcadams@10.0.1.112's password:
id: cannot find name for user ID 508
id: cannot find name for user ID 508
[I have no name!@earth ~]$ pwd
/home/mcadams
Any ideas what's going on? _________________ Registered Linux User: 437619

My guess is there's a possible entry missing from /etc/passwd for uid 508, please check by running the following command.
Code: | # grep 508 /etc/passwd |
Also what is the output of "id" when you run from your non-root user account? |

Turned out chmod 644 /etc/passwd & /etc/group was off. _________________ Registered Linux User: 437619
