Hi,
I have been chasing this for a long time without any luck. I wonder if I am alone on earth with this problem.
Setup: dual monitor desktop, running one X server, two separate screens (no xinerama). Running KDE with focus policy "Focus follows mouse" (apparently, this does not matter much anyway). Problem is that with the pointer on one screen, the focus gets stolen by windows on the other screen - often quite unpredictably. Furthermore, the active screen is defined by the screen on which the focused window is. This means that whenever (often) a window from the other screen steals focus, my actions go to the wrong screen (not the one with the pointer)
For example. I can't live without my virtual desktops (4 independent ones on both screens) and I am switching between them with keyboard shortcuts (Alt-1 ... Alt-4). Common story: 0. work on one of the screens while other screen displays my chat window, 1. close a window (Ctrl-Q), 2. press Alt-3 to switch to another desktop still the same screen, 3. be surprised by virtual desktop switched on other screen (chats disappearing).
I could explain better but I am hoping that maybe somebody out there has already gone through this hell, sympathizes with the suffering and even has a brilliant clue as to the solution
Thanks in advance,
Tamas |
