Install Xfree Libs only?

Is it possible to install the Xfree libs only? I would like to run some apps that require X, and export the display to my user machine. However, it seems the only way to do this is to install the entire X Server, which i don't need because it's a headless server.

It is possible AFAIK, but an ebuild doesn't currently exist to do such a thing. See https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=70082 for a similar situation.
