compiz-fusion makes programs randomly close

Hi,
I recently started using compiz-fusion, and overall it is surprisingly stable, but I have noticed that sometimes, for apparently no reason, programs will randomly close, silently without seeming to crash. I don't really know how to go about diagnosing this any ideas?

Also, completely unrelated, windows which I have maximized eg. firefox will not remember their maximized state when closed and reopened with emerald, is there any solution to this also?
