When I boot the DVD, I get grub console. What I see is Loading Stage 2 and then grub console loads. I can't boot the CD properly. I use USB-CDROM.

We would need a little more information to understand what exactly is wrong.

Where exactly does the DVD stop booting?
What messages do you see on your screen till it stops?

Any solutions to this issue?

I think I am seeing the same issue, but with minimal CD (both x86 and AMD64).

My hardware;
http://www.jetwaycomputer.com/AMD3.html i.e. nvidia+amd.

First I tried x86, but seing it fail after Grub "loading Stage 2", eding up with the Grub command prompt, I thought that maybe x86 can't run on AMD64 anymore, so I downloaded and burnt AMD64 minimal CD instead. But same issue with that one.

I tried booting the x86 minimal on my laptop, and this works fine; I get the grub selection menu.

I tried x86 2007.0 minimal, and this one works fine on my new box as well. But missing the drivers for the network, so I can't use that one out of the box either.

Edit: Also I am using a USB CDROM. (same on both the laptop and the new AMD box)

I'm stuck.

Ok, isolating it to the Jetway type motherboard, and not the USB-CDROM itself narrows it down a bit.

vespaman, does your external drive support DVD?
Then you can try and boot of off the LiveDVD like obsrv and thus establish that the problem is related to the motherboard type.

What are you "seeing fail"?
Since you enter Grub, there is no problem with your BIOS booting off of the USB-CDROM.

I'm guessing that your issue is Grub failing at its attempts to load the kernel.
You have some shell commands available to you in Grub, which you can use to point it in the right direction
But such a fix would depend on exactly which error you are seeing.

Well, I am not actually seing any failure message, but I never arrive to the Grub menu, but to the Grub command prompt as stated.
i.e. the kernel load is not (at this point in time) the problem. The problem is Grub menu.

Bios detection works fine, my guess is that Grub somehow gets confused by the drive order, and are messing up the path to grub.conf?

My usb CDROM also does DVD, so I can try that later on today, but what would we learn doing this?
As I have now done an install with 2008.0 B2 on another machine, I know more what to expect, and have a look at loading the kernel manually.

That is my guess too.
To verify this bug, try a different liveCD like Knoppix, Ubuntu, etc
They method may work without problem, or at least give you more helpful error messages

To verify that you and obsrv having the same issue.
He is using the new LiveDVD and you have tried the new minimal CD

OK, I have now tested Knoppix 5.1 & KUbuntu 8.04, and they both works (as do 2007.0), but those don't seem to use Grub, so I am not sure if this tells us anything.

No, both distros use grub
It's just that instead of /boot/grub/grub.conf they use the file /boot/grub/menu.lst
The grub syntax is the same, only the filename is different.

Open a bug and point the URL back to this thread.
The devs would better know how to solve this from here.
But first make sure your situation is not a duplicate of 222837 or 220058 (if it is, add your info under them instead)
