Is it possible to switch between fullscreen and windowed mode while playing Neverwinter Nights?
I hate to quit NWN to check my emails or the like.. ;)

fullscreen=0 and AllowWindowedMode=1 in your nwn/nwn.ini

OK, that makes it start in windowed mode. But how do i get it back into fullscreen mode (and vice versa) without the need to edit the configfile again and restart NWN? Is there a hotkey or something or isn't it possible at all?

I haven't tried it, but you might be able to switch it by going to the console (~) and typing in "Fullscreen=1", or "Fullscreen=0" (you can use [TAB] to complete a command in the console, just like on any *nix console :D). If it doesn't work initially, try typing in "Debugmode=1" first. If that doesn't work, I don't think anything will.

Nice idea. ;)
But doesn't work. I activated Debugmode, unfortunately there is no Fullscreen function.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Well, I tried a few different things and couldn't get anything to work. One possibilty to play nwn fullscreen and use your normal desktop would be to open another X session.
Doing so you would be able to switch per <ctrl><alt>F8 back to your nwn after switching per <ctrl><alt>F7 to your desktop.

a little start script for nwn could look like this:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
X :1 (plus whatever options you need)
export DISPLAY=localhost:1.0
nwn
pkill -TERM -f 'X :1'

Unfortunately this solution doesn't work for me because my X freezes if I open another session...sometimes even <ctrl><alt><del> won't do anything.
:cry:

This is probably a good one for Bioware's NWN Linux forums.

Interesting link.
I have found a similiar way to toggle fullscreen in the meantime. I use a Logitech keyboard with extra keys set up to control xmms (the package is called hotkeys). I was playing NWN and accidently hit one of those keys. NWN switched into windowed mode and xmms was launched. This way i was able to check my emails or doing anything else, NWN kept running in windowed mode.
Closing xmms or clicking into the NWN window switched it back into fullscreen mode. :D

btw: It will work with Fullscreen=0 and without the AllowWindowedMode=1 setting.

put
Option "AllowDeactivateGrabs" "true"

in ServerLayout in XF86Config, (note, if you lock your screen with for example a screensaver, you need to make sure it supports the api to overwrite deactivategrabs).

then click ctrl+alt+numpad /, move your mouse off the nwn screen (it'll unlock the grab nwn has on the mouse), select a window, nwn will pop into window mode, do what you need, select nwn again, and in some 5-10 seconds nwn changes to full screen and grabs the mouse again :)
