I'm trying to compile Squid 3.0.8 and always receive the link error:

Code:
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.la' or unhandled argument `/usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.la'
make[3]: *** [ufsdump] Error 1
make[3]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/net-proxy/squid-3.0.8/work/squid-3.0.STABLE8/src'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/net-proxy/squid-3.0.8/work/squid-3.0.STABLE8/src'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/net-proxy/squid-3.0.8/work/squid-3.0.STABLE8/src'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

I've had MySQL installed on this box, but have removed it and the mysql USE flag. (It's taking up space, not needed, has forked by its developers, and I just prefer PostgreSQL.)

This trying to be upgraded on my "router" box, PII Pentium 640MB RAM, the previous version was 3.0.6.

Any ideas on how I can get Squid to compile without bringing in MySQL components, since there is no mysql USE flag?

Have you run revdep-rebuild (from gentoolkit) since you removed mysql and the mysql USE flag? Also, I assume that you ran "emerge -uDN world" after you disabled the mysql USE flag. If not, do so, then revdep-rebuild, then try to emerge squid again.

Have you double-checked that Squid really is going to be compiled without MySQL support? What does emerge -av tell you?
