I connected a Logitech QuickCam Messenger to my gentoo box, then I emerged media-video/qc-usb-messenger.
After some work and some reboots I still can't get it working...

dmesg | grep quickcam:

I have the camera working , but not using that particular application. Some information to review:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_a_webcam
http://blog.preshweb.co.uk/2007/05/logitech-quickcam-messenger-under-linux/
http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html

the key is to find the correct driver for the camera. look for v4l (video 4 linux) drivers. Also check the spca5xx driver.

Hi,
I have the same Quickcam Messenger (same ID etc.) and it used to work fine up to kernel 2.6.26 with the gspcav1 driver which appears to be the successor of the spcaxx driver for this cam. After upgrading the kernel (now 2.6.28 ) compiling gspcav1 doesn't work anymore and if I'm not wrong here it won't since kernel 2.6.27 because you are meant to use the built in cam drivers.

My problem is to find the right driver. The quicktime messenger doesn't work nor do the GSPCA based ones from gspca-spca500 - 561 which should be one of the working ones following this website.

I'll go through all the drivers again but it's really no fun :).

Got it working now with the gspca-zc3xx module. Yay :)! Try it, it supports a lot of chips.
