I have all the necessary plugins installed. However, when I play videos in totem, all I see is a green screen.

Use Flags for gst-plugins-meta
media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta a52 alsa dvd esd ffmpeg flac mad mpeg ogg theora vorbis xv

Any ideas? Earlier all these use flags for gstreamer were in my global make file, I then moved them to package.use when I did a new install. Could that be the problem?

Ok why dont you try using mplayer and see if you get the same problem? I find mplayer a far superior product - but this is a personal opinion.
Another option is to emerge -C totem and reinstall.

Ha Ha, Shazam. Yeah, rahulthewall is because of Rahul Dravid only. Mplayer works, that is not the issue. Totem does not work. I would try to reinstall it and see what happens.

No, reemerging totem does not do the trick. Have to find some solution somehow. 
EDIT: Solved with gst-pluginis-ffmpeg-0.10.4-r1.
