Yesterday I bought a new Mainboard for my gf's Computer to get her a new shiny system, so understand, the issue is critical and worst case :-) (She gets mad something not working properly)

I can't boot to the SATA Drive's root partition. The new Board has an "NVIDIA® nForce™ 630a MCP" chipset whereas the old was an SIL SATA. So I took in CONFIG_SATA_NV like on my other Mainboards I use and felt happy, but I get an Kernel Panic 801, inaccsessible boot device.

What I wonder is that an 2007.1 install CD actually _can_ access /dev/sda1 to mount and chroot into it. So, where could be the magic difference?

Is the live CD using AHCI SATA access with its 2.6.19 kernel or does it disable ACPI at all? I had not much time to investigate this yesterday. The mess is, the bootmessages scroll by so fast, I can't read anything and I also can't scroll up after the panic.
Also even the livecd can not access the forcedeth eth but this may be due to a missing PCI ID in the driver...

Does aniybody have this f$§"% board running?

Okay, I got it finally. If ever somebody stumbles upon it, the Board is running fine:

I updated BIOS to 070x
SATA can not be accessed by sata_nv, switch IDE to AHACI in BIOS, use sata_ahci in linux Kernel.
The nvidia forcedeth module needs driver for marvell phy preloaded, marvell.ko (CONFIG_MARVELL), then it works fine.
