Power Management

I'm new at this so be gentle with your corrections...

I'm just trying to get to the power management settings. I want my monitor to stop turning off after "X" minutes. I don't even know how long its set for. I'm sure there's a configuration file somewhere but I don't know where to find it. I like watching my computer compile.

is this in xorg (kde, gnome, openbox, etc etc), or in the console?

try "xset s 0" (if xorg, and it's still blanking despite having a screensaver turned off)
or
try "setterm -blank 0" (if console)
