I'm trying to get fusion-icon emerged, but I can't seem to find a corresponding ebuild anywhere. it's not in the main gentoo portage, and all the overlay references I find, like desktop-effect, xeffects & the like are non-existent by now.

is there an ebuild that available currently for fusion-icon? why is it not in the main portage tree?

* stuart-desktop            [Subversion] (source: http://overlays.gentoo.org...)

desktop-effects [Git ] (source: git://git.overlays.gentoo....)
It may be that it had to be added to layman manually - I know I´ve done this once or twice. I´ll see if I can find out, but it definitely is current (and fusion-icon works fine).

interesting - dektop-effects is actually marked as non-offical, so it doesn't show up on layman -L

but it's there :) well, strange behaviour

Does layman -a desktop-effects work for you? If not, then you have to add it manually, which I can´t find how to do at the moment. Somewhere on the forums lies the answer...

yes, it does. it's just strange that there's no option to layman that it would actually list these unoffical overlays, one has to open the overlay list XML file and see manually (actually desktop-effects is the very first in the file :) but adding it worked fine..

oh, I see. from the documentation, it wasn't clear to me what this does:

Code:

-k, --nocheck       Do not check overlay definitions and do not issue a
warning if description or contact information are
                        missing.

thanks for letting me know!

why doesn't that ebuild appear again? Will it appear on a later date? or is it something I screwed up?

I have that same problem as posted above. It appears in portage (fusion-icon that is), but no ebuild available.

fusion-icon is not in portage. it only resides in the desktop-effects overlay.

i think this is because it never had any real release but has always need to be pulled from git (aka a 9999 ebuild). I could be wrong though... as it looks like there is at least a 0.1 release (also in desktop-effects).

I found my mistake. from [url="http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Overlays"]this[/url] wiki link, it says....

Quote:
For layman versions prior to 1.2.0 use:

echo "source /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf" >> /etc/make.conf

For layman versions 1.2.0 and later use:

echo "source /usr/local/portage/layman/make.conf" >> /etc/make.conf

I was using the first link instead of the second, and i had layman 1.2.0.
