It seems like I have openssl 0.9.6i-r2 installed. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

Will upgrading openssl break anything? There seems to be some differences if you are having problems with them.
I was planning on re-doing the compile of OOo tonight with more agressive CFLAGS, and I could update my version of openssl to the latest then (0.9.6j).
It depends on how warm my apartment is though, my machine has overheated once in the last few days. It took me 8h and 57 minutes to compile last time, and with additional optimizations it'll likely take even longer, so the machine is likely to get a bit hot... _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

Thanks to you,Nylle!
I can run your version whereas i cannot with the p3 one. Do you use gnome-2.3X from breakmygentoo.net (as me) ? It could be an explication. The p3 version gives me an "unable to find liblinc.so..." and even if i emerge linc or make a simlink against libORBit-CosNaming.so, it doesn't work, but no probs with yours
Thanks to share. |

Yes, I run a gnome-current from breakmygentoo.net, which is a few weeks old. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

Just giving some positive feedback - it looks like your ebuild worked out great on my system! I started it up in the morning, and when I came home from work for the day it was finished
It looks real nice, I like what Ximian's done to the icons. Also, it seems like it's a bit snappier as well.
Again, nice ebuild, and thanks! |

HI !
Im a bit confused ...
After 7 hrs of compiling ooo finisched succesfully but where is it ?
In /opt/openoffice there is only /user and two links to /programm/spadmin and /programm/soffice but the /programm directory is missing.
in /var/tmp/portage/openoffice there is only one file left successfull.
Any idea what happened here ? |

The build of OOo in this thread installs into /opt/OpenOffice.org1.1_rc2, so it's not so strange that /opt/openoffice is empty. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

So, just when Lovechild got the old build working, I've got a new one!
This one is built with
Code: | -march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe |
However, the ebuild replaces O3 with O2, but at least it keeps the -march and -pipe. As there seemed to be some problems with openSSL in the previous build, this one is built against the latest openSSL (0.9.6j). This shouldn't be any change, as the last one was built against 0.9.6i and there should be minimal changes between these. However, sometimes libraries do strange stuff...
You can get it at
http://www.update.uu.se/~adde/openoffice-ximian-1.1_rc2.tbz2
Oddly, this build took 30 minutes shorter to complete, even though it is more optimized. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

Call me a n00b, but I have to ask.
What is OpenOffice-Ximian ?
I just emerged OpenOffice, or rather the aging Duron 800/320MB did that for last night, and altough it is probably stable, it doesn't look that hot.
Now I did a quick search on here, but the screenshots were mostly broken and the Ximian site is mostly we-are-the-best shouting. (Altough it does sound and look nice)
So the questions are as follows,
Is OpenOffice-Ximian some sort of skinlike thing for OpenOffice ?
Does this ebuild include Ximian-Evolution, or am I asking a weird question ?
Extra question -> Does Evolution support Calender sharing, the site says it does but goed on about using Exhcange, and what I want is Linux only solution for calender sharing, pereferably one that can sync with an iPaq
Thanx for any and all answers you guys can give me. _________________ Code, justify, code - Pitr Dubovich |

Basically, OpenOffice-ximian is a version of OpenOffice created by ximian. The main changes are in making the interface visually more pleasing and in printing and better integration into gnome. See these slides for an explanation, especially this one.
No, the build does not include ximian-evolution, altough one of the things ximian has implemented is integration into evolution. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

The latest openssl in portage is 0.9.7b, and my whole system is built with it.
The problem was that the binary openoffice was compiled with version 0.9.6. To fix this, I got and rpm from rpmfind.net, extracted the lib with rpm2targz and copied the 0.9.6 lib over.
But anyway, it would be nice to have it compiled with the latest version of openssl (but to upgrade to version 0.9.7 the whole system has to be rebuild as many packages depend on it). |

Crap, It must have made it into portage after I last did an emerge sync this weekend. We had a major electricity outage (the worst I can remember, the whole city was without electricity for almost 20 minutes), which fucked up the servers in the network I'm connected to. So, I could only access the web through a dedicated proxy, and since I was lazy and didn't install emerge-webrsync, updating the portage tree was painful.
How much needs to be rebuilt for an update to 0.9.7b?
--edit---
I can't seem to find 0.9.7b in portage, my system reports that 0.9.6j is the latest still and I can find no mention of it in packages.mask. What am I doing wrong? _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

It just might not be showing with 'emerge openssl':
Code: | mightymax root # emerge openssl -p
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] dev-libs/openssl-0.9.6j
mightymax root # cd /usr/portage/dev-libs/openssl/
mightymax openssl # ls
ChangeLog openssl-0.9.6i-r2.ebuild openssl-0.9.7a-r2.ebuild
Manifest openssl-0.9.6i.ebuild openssl-0.9.7a.ebuild
files openssl-0.9.6j.ebuild openssl-0.9.7b.ebuild
openssl-0.9.6i-r1.ebuild openssl-0.9.7a-r1.ebuild
mightymax openssl # |

Ah ok, should have checked that. But if it isn't in ~x86 yet, or even masked in packages.mask it must be either very new or pretty invasive. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

Openssl 0.9.7b has been masked for every arch except amd64 since it's not backwards comp. with older releases and you will have to recompiled many apps (revdep-rebuild will help) for your system to work. |

Is it worth updgrading openssl? Does it add any functionality or is it a security fix? _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

But of course, who needs more gratification then the joy of mindless compiling...
