I have been trying to install Gentoo on my eee pc. I have a complete working installation on a usb hard drive but getting it working on the SSD is proving to be a pain.

During bootup, I get a pam authentication error right after starting udevd which also fails to start. From there on, lots of complaints about a read only FS. I'm 100% sure fstab is correct though. I have tried normal and unstable udev and pam packages. Neither of which changes anything. I am able to log on as root but it says unable to change tty /dev/tty1: Read only file system.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't expect a lengthy reply. I mainly would just like an idea of where to start my troubleshooting. Thank you.

is there a "ro" (read-only) option in your grub line or your fstab, pertaining to your root partition?

cheers
