I have an old 64bit AMD system as my desktop and the hardrive is too full to install my next project.
It is an 80GB IDE drive LVM2 reiserfs.
I have a pair of 250Gb SATA drives sitting here for months Id like to use in a raid configuration.
Would it be possible to mount the sata drive on the bios'es raid controller while the main drive is still active. Then fdisk and chroot into the blank sata drives and change the boot order when It is ready?
I don't think I can dd the 80 gig image over to the raided sata drives and it is time for a new install. (this one has been continuously upgraded since, well the amd64 came out in late 2004)
I haven't installed sata yet let alone raid
Additional info. It is one of those Nforce3-250Gb boards. Last I checked, this is not real HW raid and is not bootable. Has this changed? _________________ ghidra: 2.6.18-gentoo-r3 x86_64 AMD64 with xfce4 across 2 monitors; reiserfs on LVM2

You should not have problems with that mobo. Just turn off the bios raid, install your two sata hds and boot up on the 80gig. Now follow your raid guide. Remeber you dont raid your boot partition. _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |
