|

As the topic says, scrolling in Firefox (using 3, it was the same with 2) is so horribly slow, that I can not simply use compiz fusion. Anyone has an idea why this might be happening? _________________ Who shall guard the guards?

That happens if you use fglrx. You shuld update to the latest drivers, the issue has been improved a lot. Also try Code: | Option "BackingStore" "on" | in the device section in xorg.conf.
|

I have an Intel 945 GMA, so I do not use fglrx. However, I will try this option and see what happens, if it makes a difference on Intel Cards. _________________ Who shall guard the guards? |

Note: I have an old radeon so it might not apply for intel but here what I found with my graphic card.
I found that with my radeon the EXA scroll much better than XAA mode Also compiz 7.6 from the desktop-effects overlay work much much faster than the portage 6.0
It seem from the following wiki that intel card can set
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA" # XAA & EXA are valid values
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Direct_rendering_on_Intel_Extreme_Graphics_(855GM)_chipsets
EDIT:hmm it a wiki page candidate for deletion and I can't seem to get the link correctly. I haven't read the whole thing it just the last xorg.conf example too see that EXA or XAA is indeed an option not sure if it realy work
EDIT2: here an other xorg.conf example which use XAA http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Dell_Inspiron_E1405/xorg.conf
However a quick google search tell me that lot people have problem with intel graphic and EXA and compiz so It might not work for you.
Give EXA a shot if it crash the whole thing revert back to XAA or switch to XAA if it's already on EXA
Good luck |

This guide and the option XAA solved the problem. Thanks a lot! _________________ Who shall guard the guards? |
