Breakdown of iwl3945 wlan performance in vanilla kernels

I compiled and installed a recent vanilla kernel from portage (linux-2.6.26-rc9) to see how actual wlan (iwl3945) development was doing and I had to realize that wlan throughput is radically degrading with the new kernel iwl3945 code.

With the driver of the linux-2.6.25-gentoo-r6 kernel I get about 2.5 MB/s, whereas the one contained in linux-2.6.26-rc9 melts down to just 1MB/s.

Actually, I have the impression that with any new developpement step of the wlan drivers performance gets worse. If I remember correctly I got like 3MB/s with ipw3945.

Why is that so, do you have comparable numbers?

It seems to be a know problem if you check the malling list from the intel wireless project.
