Hi,

since I last plugged in my usb camera someone has been in there with a food blender.

Code:
bash-3.2#ls /dev/usb*
/dev/usbdev1.1_ep00  /dev/usbdev2.1_ep00  /dev/usbdev3.1_ep00  /dev/usbdev3.2_ep00  /dev/usbdev3.3_ep01  /dev/usbdev3.3_ep83
/dev/usbdev1.1_ep81  /dev/usbdev2.1_ep81  /dev/usbdev3.1_ep81  /dev/usbdev3.3_ep00  /dev/usbdev3.3_ep82  /dev/usblp0

How do I find my camera device in that mess, trail and error until something mounts alright?

googling one of those device names brings up hardly any results, I'm wonder what all this is about.

Anyone know what this is?

TIA, Gentree. 8)

If you have lsbutils installed, you can use lsusb to list the attached devices. You can also check your dmesg output right after plugging in your camera. That will usually show you which device(s) is (were) assigned to it.

My guess would be Hal - it's suddenly started doing a lot of things automatically,
and I'm still trying to find out how to stop it. Generally it seems to feel that any
possible device is fair game for displaying/mounting, and I can't convince it
otherwise.
