I am using 'install CD' downloaded couple of weeks back: install-amd64-minimal-2008.0_beta2.iso

Strictly following the latest Gentoo handbook. Upto the step before 'emerge gentoo-sources' things were pretty normal. This command exited unexpectedly with the following error message:

Code:
* The ebuild phase 'preinst' has exited unexpectedly. This type of
* behavior is known to be triggered by things such as failed variable
* assignments (bug #190128) or bad substitution errors (bug #200313)
!!! post preinst failed; exiting.
!!! FAILED preinst: 1

* Message for package sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.25-r6:

* The ebuild phase 'preinst' has exited unexpectedly. This type of
* behavior is known to be triggered by things such as failed variable
* assignments (bug #190128) or bad substitution errors (bug #200313)

Anyone has seen or heard problems like this? Any clues on how to resolve this?? Thanks.

I am a newbie to linux environment and don't know how to copy /etc/make.conf or the file 'e_info' created through emerge --info > e_info.

'emerge --info' displays a chunk of text and I am sure its not possible to type manually. There should be some efficient alternate to get this files into gentoo forum.

The beta2 CD has a bug. You need to get the 2008.0-r1 release.

I used gentoo-2008.0 install CD and started the installation from scratch again. I don't see this problem anymore and the installation is successful. Thanks.
