Posted: Sun Jul 13, 2008 7:04 pm Post subject: trouble setting up wireless adapter on install? [SOLVED] |
|
|
I am using the handbook and i've looked at the wiki. I am not very far at all in the install process. i am installing the minimal x86 cd. When i try to configure my network i don't think it is recognizing my usb wireless adapter. I am using a Netgear MA101.
As it says in the handbook. I think i need to install a driver but i have no idea which one. I type in:
Code Listing 3.1: Searching for provided modules
# ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net
If you find a driver for your network card, use modprobe to load the kernel module:
Code Listing 3.2: Using modprobe to load a kernel module
(As an example, we load the pcnet32 module)
# modprobe pcnet32
My question: Do i need to install gentoo using a wired connection and then configure a wireless adapter after the install?

Heloo...
I normally install gentoo with wired connection and after configure wireless network. Your network adapter not have support in kernel =(. after install gentoo emerge package net-wireless/at76c503a with contains your wireless driver. |

You can fiddle with the Gentoo installer for a while to get your wireless working, but one of the two alternatives will be much more efficient. You can do as cassiol suggested and install via a wired connection, configuring your wireless after the initial installation. You can also boot up a Live distribution (Mint, PCLinuxOS, *Ubuntu, et cetera) that comes pre-configured for your wireless, and you can install Gentoo from within that environment using the terminal. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

Just add "[SOLVED]" to your title (first post) |

Hi,
You go to the first post in the thread, and you click the "edit" button in the upper-right corner of the post. When you're on the edit screen, you will see the title box, and you can add [SOLVED] to it.
Thanks. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)
