I'm having a problem with my dhcp client, dhcpcd 3.1.5-r1. When the dhcp server isn't reachable it keeps trying to renew the lease and timing out, over and over again. Recently the dhcp server crashed and because of my client constantly trying to renew the lease my isp disconnected my internet until I can stop it from doing that. Is there any way to put a delay between attempts or something else I can do to fix this?

This exact issue is fixed with dhcpcd-3.2
However, all versions of dhcpcd are vulnerable to a similar flaw in other parts. This deficiency has already been fixed, and will be available in dhcpcd-4.0.0_beta10 or newer.

For the technically inclined, we basically moved from an ever decreasing timeout and many checks to working around fixed times with a single time check.

Thanks, that appears to have worked.
