Hi,
I hope I'm posting this in the right place... I'm running 2.6.24-gentoo-r8 on an Inspiron 6000 laptop. My IPW2200 wireless card has been working fine until I rebooted the laptop today and saw that the ipw2200 module failed to load.

$sudo modprobe ipw2200 returns:
Code:

FATAL: Error inserting ipw2200 (/lib/modules/2.6.24-gentoo-r8/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

$dmesg | tail -n 4 returns:
Code:
ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL'
ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, git-1.1.13
ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation <jketreno@linux.intel.com>
ipw2200: Unknown parameter `#(add'

So then i ran:
/usr/src/linux $sudo make modules modules_install
$update-modules
$depmod -a

so that I would have a fresh copy of the module, but modprobe just gave me another "unknown parameter `#add'

The only other thing i could think of was the firmware, so i re-emerged ipw2200-firmware, but i only got the same result.

Help please!!!

i think i found something rather relevant...

i tried $sudo modprobe -v ipw2200 and got:
Code:

insmod /lib/modules/2.6.24-gentoo-r8/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko led=1 #(add other options here if applicable)
FATAL: Error inserting ipw2200 (/lib/modules/2.6.24-gentoo-r8/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

note the first line:
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.24-gentoo-r8/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko led=1 #(add other options here if applicable)

that looks a lot like the `#(add ' parameter it was complaining about.. so how do i fix that?

$sudo vim /etc/modules.d/ipw2200
Code:

.....
options ipw2200 led=1 #(add other options here if applicable)
.....

i removed the #(add other options here if applicable) part and...

$sudo update-modules
$sudo modprobe -v ipw2200

And it works!!!
