|
|
Hi all.
Recently I bought a new mother board, a Gigabyte 73PVM-S2H (nforce 630i chipset).
I am using this with my living room computer and it is connected through the optical spdif to my
digital receiver.
I have been trying to enable passthru of dolby digital, dts, etc. to the receiver with no success.
I can play music and hear 2 channel sound just fine, but just can't use it to pass the digital signal
with 5.1 channels to the receiver.
Any help will be appreciated as I am becoming very frustrated and I really don't want to install
windows on my computers... (I'd love to have amarok to listen to music, etc...).
Thanks.

On kmix in kde all I have to do is click on "IEC958 Output" under the switches tab. |

I enabled iec958, as I said, I can listen to music and watch movies but the sound coming out
from the optical spdif is two channel only.
Even when I am playing movies I know are encoded with dolby or dts with 5.1 channels the output stays 2 channels
(I can see that on my receiver).
I have no issue with stereo sound whatsoever, I think it's just that when playing a movie the information
is not passed through the spdif undecoded but is handled somehow by alsa (which probably downmixes it to 2 channels)
and only then sent over the spdif. |
