Hi All:

I am experimenting with getting and external 22" LCD working with my laptop which has an ATI X1600 based card in it.
The aticonfig --help talks about something called "dual head", then "big desktop" and then "Dual Display adapters".

My question, if anybody knows, is what means what?
Does Xinerama have anything to do with this?

From some stuff I found on the Ubuntu forum, it appears that the "dual display adapters" is the same as "big desktop". I guess when ATI says dual display adapters they also mean a display adapter with dual outputs. In which case, what does dual head mean?

At the end of the day, I want a single frame buffer and the be able to drag items from one screen to the other with 3D acceleration enabled.

Cheers,
John

Dual-head will not apply in your case, as it means having the desktop spread over two monitors (which utilises xinerama). For that single monitor, you should just have to put the corresponding modes (or modeline) in your xorg.conf after emerging the ATi drivers.

Your first sentence is actually what I want to do. That's what I meant anyway....I use dual head then?
