Ideal linux hardware

I have 2 computers currently, I've installed linux on both of them. One Redhat 7.3, the other Ive installed Redhat 8.0 and Slackware 9.0. I am getting a new box that will run gentoo. With my 2 current computers Ive had hardware problems with each when I run linux, I was wondering is there an ideal linux machine, were all the hardware just works perfectly in harmony? are any of you guys running very smoothly? if so what are your specs? I want my new box to be the perfect linux machine.

My price range is $250-400. Im not looking for insane speed, or graphics. its not going to be a gaming computer or anything super special. Just fast enough to run smoothly without being irritated by waitng for windows and shit to apear like on my 350 mhz, I want a 10- 20 gb harddrive..

well what do you need to get? mobo? processor? gfx card? be more specific
