hi guys,
i will be trying to install gentoo on alpha 1200 soon
maybe i can help compile some pkg later or even as tester (but not so efficient or timely manner ;-p)
coz i have put an alpha 1200 under my office seat
btw......any special issue that i should take care of?
or any debug mode that i'd better enable b4 really doing anything?
and.....where should i put my alpha questions in? Alternate Architectures?
thx

Hi!
Good to have another Alpha user around.
Alpha-related questions should go in Alternate Architectures forum.
We'd love for you to do other package testing.
If you're interested, please join the #gentoo-alpha and #alpha IRC channels on Freenode, and also join the AlphaLinux.Org Wiki.
It's easier to coordinate testing on IRC than forums. _________________ My Wiki page |

wOw......
thx for the warm welcome......
i m not an alpha pro......though when my days was learning C......it was a class taken on alpha station......only knowing return values of sizeof() are different from those what we have on x86.....
but this time i m holding an alpha server......hm......
hope to get something interesting @work......XD
maybe i will do some hardware listing so u guys can identify what hardware i really have on hand......
e.g. cat /proc/cpuinfo, lspci? or what tools/cmd i can do such hardware listing?
and i know there is something i can do before loading the os in the "alpha prompt"......but just don't know what i should do and i just wait till os got loaded up.....
hope to grow my alpha knowledge here.......hehehe.......^_^
while i can grow through being helper as well.....not "hell"......hehe........ ![Rolling Eyes ](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) _________________ hackers - make sth real

When the system boots, it should end at a prompt like this
This is SRM, which kind of does the same thing as a PC's BIOS.
From here, you can run commands to get info about your computer like
Also, you can have it show a page at a time just like in Linux with the more command.
Hope to see you in #alpha. ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ My Wiki page |
