|
|
Every time I try to print from evolution 1.4.3 it hangs - only evolution hangs, everything else is fine. I get no error messages or anything like that.
I am printing to a remote CUPS server. Everything else can print without any trouble.
I don't use gnome as my desktop, I use fluxbox - which may be why only evolution hangs
Any thoughts... _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

Anyone have any idea? I upgrade to 1.4.4 and I still get the same problem... _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

Did you ever solve this? I'm having the same problem. Printing doesn't work in evolution. Printing works in MozillaFirebird and doing a test page from cups.

See thats odd because I can print fine from Evolution but MozillaFirebird locks up when I try to print. |

My solution was simply to stop using evolution as my email client - mainly because of this
If anyone figures this out then please let me know as I may switch back _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

Hi,
Looks like evolution 1.4.5 printing is broken when I installed the foomatic packages... I un-installed them and rebuild evolution... still broken... looks like foomatic didn't uninstall properly... Did you also install foomatic?
Thanks,

I reemerged foomatic packages and still no printing from evolution 1.4.5
The funny thing is that it used to work before I updated some gnome packages. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Jesus! Downgrading libgnomeprint from 2.4.2 to 2.4.0 seems to fix it. Maybe I should reemerge evolution with the new library? _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Reemerging evolution does not seem to fix it. The only way for me is to emerge libgnomeprint-2.4.0 (for which I have a binary tbz2) _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

so - to clarify, emerging 1.4.0 of libgnomeprint enables printing in evolution again? _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

Yes it worked for me. I downgraded libgnomeprint and libgnomeprintui from version 2.4.2 to 2.4.0 and rebuild evolution (1.4.5) aswell.

2.4.0, and not 1.4.0
I am trying to reduce optimization flags _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

I have installed 2.4.0 for both libgnomeprint and libgnomeprintui and still have the same problem.
I wil ltry to re-emerge evolution itself _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

How are your CFLAGS? In the bug report, they are asking to reduce the CFLAGS to less aggressive values. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Hmm,
Did you do a:
Code: |
$ evolution --force-shutdown
|
(shutdown evolution and remove any hanging processes)
Code: |
# emerge -C libgnomeprint libgnomeprintui
|
(removes all libgnomeprint && libgnomeprintui installed versions *completely*)
Code: |
# ebuild /usr/portage/gnome-base/libgnomeprint/libgnomeprint-2.4.0.ebuild merge
|
(remerging will ofcourse give you version 2.4.2 again so you have to use ebuild i.s.o. emerge)
Code: |
# ebuild /usr/portage/gnome-base/libgnomeprintui/libgnomeprint-2.4.0.ebuild merge
|
(remerging will ofcourse give you version 2.4.2 again so you have to use ebuild i.s.o. emerge)
Code: |
# qpkg -I -nc evolution | xargs emerge
|
(rebuild evolution against the 2.4.0 libs. qpkg is part of the gentoolkit)
If that did not work, you might want to run strace against evolution and post the details (file /tmp/evolution.b0rken) in the forum:
Code: |
$ strace -o /tmp/evolution.b0rken evolution
|
BTW you need to emerge strace if you do not have it installed
Needless to say that I am assuming that you are running gnome-2.4 and not fluxbox with gnome-light or what have you.

tried it - it didn't work, so here's the last bits of the results of the strace:

I've jsut noticed the ip at the end of all that - there is no mahcine on my system anywhere that has that ip - could this be a factor?
BTW (in case it's not clear) I kill evolution with a ctrl-c _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

it seems that evolution need to print via ghostscript and not directly to postcript or need a good driver
i have changed cups from HL-2060-Postscript to HL-2060-hl1250 like said in my printer doc at http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi and evolution work perfectly now
the longuest process was to align margin with alignmargins from linuxprinting.org site
Code: |
cd /tmp
wget http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/printing/align.ps
wget http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/printing/alignmargins
chmod 755 alignmargins
su
./alignmargins |
hope that help you
friendly
patrick
ps: all software version are the latest from ~x86 and no recompil
ps2: sorry for my bad english but i'm better in french

Yep, Control C is that SIGINT signal in the strace file. Maybe you should check your CUPS installation/configuration. Are you using a local printer hooked up to your parallel port? It looks like it wants to connect to a CUPS server at 192.168.1.1.
