why only asterisk 1.2 in portage? [SOLVED]

as a user coming from ubuntu where asterisk 1.4 was available straight from package manager, could anyone please tell me why does gentoo stick to outdated 1.2, anything wrong with 1.4? are there any plans on an official 1.4 ebuild or is it https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215593 that will make it's way into portage asa it gets released?

I'm don't know about the plans for the official tree but you can get 1.4 and 1.6 from the voip overlay which is installable with layman, user guide here
