I just noticed that cryptsetup warns that CONFIG_DM_CRYPT is not set in my kernel configuration. Obviously it's nothing serious since I've only just noticed it after a couple of years. So I'm really just mentioning it for the purpose of suggesting that maybe either that warning is misplaced or the "crypt" USE flag is too broad, or something. The only crypt I want to use is GPG, so I wonder if cryptsetup is even necessary on my system, let alone multi-spindle logical volumes. I could be wrong, but I thought it was worth mentioning in case I'm not.

cryptsetup / dm-crypt is for encrypted hard drives, file systems and such. If all you use is gpg for single files or mails, then yeah, you have no need for dm-crypt. crypt useflag is very broad, it adds support for cryptography, no matter what sort of cryptography it is. Probably better to enable it only for the packages where you actually need it (like your mail software) in package.use or something. Or just leave everything as is and ignore the warning, as it does not apply to you. |
