|
|
Hey, I setup framebuffer support in my kernel and am now enjoying a nice display. What I am wndering about is the refresh rate possibilities....
Right now it uses 60hz where as my minitor can do 85hz at 1024x768. I compiled in vesa support only in my kernel for fb
I really have no clue whats the best I could be getting.
I have a geforce2 MX - didnt really see support for that in the framebuffer kernel options...also not sure what kernel options I have available to config framebuffer??
Right now I use vga=792
IF anyone can offer some suggestions to how I can get the most out of the framebuffer tech with the hardware I have available.
thanx!
Hardware:
Acer Monitor 17" - Vert:50-120, Horz:30-86, 1024x768/100hz
Geforce2 MX 32MB

Could you perhaps link to your solutions? I'm not finding anything and I have a similiar situation. Everything seems to point towards there being no workable solution. You make it sound like you found one. |

AFAIK, using vesa you're stuck with 60Hz, I don't think there's any way around it.
Edit: from linux/Documentation/fb/vesafb.txt: Code: | Refresh rates
=============
There is no way to change the vesafb video mode and/or timings after
booting linux. If you are not happy with the 60 Hz refresh rate, you
have these options:
* configure and load the DOS-Tools for your the graphics board (if
available) and boot linux with loadlin.
* use a native driver (matroxfb/atyfb) instead if vesafb. If none
is available, write a new one!
* VBE 3.0 might work too. I have neither a gfx board with VBE 3.0
support nor the specs, so I have not checked this yet.

Its now possible, you have to patch and recompile your kernel, as well as know about your monitors specs, but you can do it.
