I have been using gentoo for a few months now with the internet working fine, however yesterday I booted up my machine and I couldn't go to any webpages, or login to gaim. I could however ping places on the internet (www.yahoo.com), and I got a response back. Some additional information: I am behind a router with two other computers also connected, and they are having no trouble using the internet. Also, it seems that my LAN ip address changed of that computer from 192.168.123.136 to 192.168.123.125. This has never happened before and I am thinking this might be the reason. The other computers on the network are 192.168.123.124 and 192.168.123.129. As I said before they can both go to webpages etc. The 192.168.123.124 computer is an OpenBSD box and I keep getting messages on the first terminal on it that say:
$DATE $HOSTNAME /bsd: arp: ether address is multicast for ip address 192.168.123.125
Where $DATE is the current date and time and $HOSTNAME is the OpenBSD machine's hostname.
So the bottom line is I can ping addresses and traceroute addresses, but I cannot open web pages or connect to gaim. Any ideas? |

Are you or your router using a firewall of some sort (iptables)? _________________ "This is a UNIX system! I know this!" -- little girl from dinasaur park |

Well, my router blocks all ports to the outside except for ones that are specified by me. But I am not using iptables. |

Is the OpenBSD box the firewall? Can you post the output of "ifconfig"? |
