Gnome/KDE on OSX Gentoo Prefix

Is there any possible way to get the Gentoo Prefix on OS X (10.4.11) to compile the source for GNOME or KDE, and then use the native X11 available in OS X. I'd like to see this prefix idea overtake MacPorts, formerly DarwinPorts and Fink. I would be willing to take on this project if it has not been started yet. I just need some help getting my feet wet with the Developers and such. If this has already been started, please lead me to the right place.

You would probably have more luck talking to devs on irc on gentoo-alt if I am not mistaken.
It would be interesting if indeed we could use some of the native stuff. In the case of kde
the QT toolkit for OS X Aqua not the X11 version for example.
I am thinking of looking at what happens when I put QT in /etc/portage/package.provided
a bit later.
