ok. My box has been up for about 2 months and I run rsync every other day to keep bleeding edge. Yesterday I rebooted it and suddenly eth0 and all inits that depend on it fail. Wierd thing is that I can load them all by hand and I get no errors. Also lsmod shows my NIC loaded but isn't being used by anything. After the reboot my prompt in Konsole is bash-2.05b$ instead of the normal username@host# BUT I can source /etc/profile to switch it back to normal but then I can't su at all. It asks for the password but the correct password fails.

sorry if this is obvious but did u upgrade your configfiles? 'etc-update'

the 'bash-2.05b$' is a known issue and covered in various threads

su... are u part of the wheel group? u should see wheel when u 'cat /etc/group | grep your_username'
