Annoyingly etqw segfaults each time I enter a game and thus far I didn't find a solution. When I got thrown out of etqw my mouse is frozen and I have to restart xorg. I suspect the fglrx driver is the culprit (I have ati-drivers-8.542 installed). Anyone else has this problem? Is there a solution?

can you post the console logs for etqw. There are a number of things that can cause the thing to segfault in linux, each are solvable

last time I tried etqw (at least I'm pretty sure that's what is was...), I got banned for cheating from every server... I wasn't cheating.

Unfortunately I can't post the console output because my mouse always freezes and I have to restart X. Does etqw keep logs somewhere?

Thanks for the hint :) I found out that the command is:
Code:
etqw  +set developer 1 +set logfile 1

console.log

my logs are almost the same as the logs from Aniruddha, except that I do not have the "autoexec.cfg not found" message.

There are a few things that can cause a segfault

1) are you running etqw-rthread or etqw

2) try setting
Code:

seta r_useIndexBuffers "1"

This set to "0" is known to segfault

3)
Also
Code:

seta s_driver "oss"

Pulseaudio and etqw /really/ don't get along. I have bugged TTimo abt how he is using ALSA in etqw but short of a major bug no more dev time I feel
Personally I use OSS4 so I use oss in this case

Hi there,

I tried with both etqw and etqw-rthread ... both segault... with and without the mentioned options. When the game first came out the demo version worked perfectly. And Btw, I have the following graphical stuff:

Code:

xorg-server
  Installed versions:  1.3.0.0-r6
  Use flags:               dri input_devices_evdev input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse input_devices_synaptics nptl sdl video_cards_fglrx xorg

ati-drivers
  Installed versions:  8.542
  Use flags:               acpi kernel_linux

libsdl
  Installed versions:  1.2.13-r1
Use flags:               X aalib alsa audio joystick opengl video

emul-linux-x86-sdl
  Installed versions:  20080316

Can you tell me how your configuration looks like? Maybe I forgot something?

Cheers,
Stefan

hmm, damn ... did an update to the latest xorg (7.4) and ati-driver(8.582) ... the segfault still persists.

:(

Hi again,

this issue is solved for me. What I've done? I dunno. I set opengl a couple of times back and forth from ati->xorg-x11->ati ... and now its working like a charm. Weired.

Anways, thx fo your help.

Cheers,
Stefan

Edit: Maybe it was a plain "PEBKAC" and I just had the wrong opengl setting ;) ;P

I am having the exact same problem. Hm, I'll try to play around with OpenGL too and see if that works out. Thanks...
