Hi guys,

Currently my laptop is runnig gentoo/gnome and beryl on top (from the gentoo guide).

I just been following the E17(enlightenment) install guide http://gentoo-wiki.com/Enlightenment_DR_17 but cannot for the life of me get it started, its been a while since i messed with gentoo and the guide just stops dead, doesnt mention how to start it or anything, if i open a command prompt and type
Code:
enlightment
a box comes up and says i should use
Code:
enlightenemt_start
I then see the following message
Code:
<<<< Enlightenment Error >>>>
Enlightenment set up window management for all the screens on your system
failed. Perhaps another window manager is running?

E17: Begin shutdown procedure!
Sending TERM signal to /usr/bin/enlightenment_init '/usr/share/enlightenment/data/init/default.edj' '1' '0' 'Enlightenment' '0.16.999.043' (8202).

How can i set enlightenment to be the default windows manager?

Can i run beryl on top or is this not needed?

Hope for a quick response guys appreciate the help

Thanks Mithandra

default? not sure.. quickly? kill beryl and start enlightenment. Or, start enlightenment with it's --replace option (if it has it)

Beryl is a window manager. "e" is either a window manager or a desktop environment (AFAIR), depending on how you look at it. Gnome is a desktop environment (with metacity, a WM).

If you're running gnome + e, it would be pointless to run ANOTHER window manager on top... and impossible. If you're running e + beryl (no gnome), I'm not sure.
