Hi,
My box has Realtek 8101e NIC and 2007.0 liveCD doesn't have a driver for it. I found the driver from realtek's website, but it requires compile, and the kernel source must be present. however, since I don't have the NIC working, I cannot emerge the kernel source, and therefore I am stuck in a deadlock.
Could someone who happens to have kernel 2.6.19 on an i686 arch help me compiling it into a .ko? I would really appreciate this. Below is the link to the driver.

genfive,
You need sneakernet to get the sources onto your PC.
Its not enough for someone to build the driver as a .ko for you. They must use identical kernel config options and the identical version of gcc to you or your kernel will reject the new module with a version magic error. _________________ Regards,

sooo frigging close! wasted most of my day... the stupid r8101e driver source code they posted is for an older kernel. some struct had been removed in 2.6.23 (as opposed to 2.6.17) and the code wouldn't even compile! but at least I know how to install gentoo without NIC in the box. |

If you haven't already done so, try again with the latest version of the driver - r8101-1.009.00
It builds fine against kernel 2.6.24 for me |
