Please post the output of "emerge -pvt mozilla-firefox" and "emerge --info", so we can see what versions, use flags etc. you use.

Do you use noscript or some other mechanism that disables javascript?

Code:
localhost reksav # emerge -pvt mozilla-firefox

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

I suggest you try to open weather.com with Java/Javascript disabled. If it doesn't crash, we know approximately where the issue lies.
Java and Javascript can cause faulty behaviour in browsers. Weather.com makes heavy use of javascript...

Sadly, I have no idea how to fix this. Javascript is notorious for its bad behaviour. Firefox offers Noscript, a nice plugin that allows you to quickly enable/disable Javascript on the fly: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 -- Noscript can also control Java, Flash, some sorts of automatic redirects, XSS, iframes, etc, so it's a very handy little tool.

My firefox 3.01 does the same(although it declares "segmentation fault" in the terminal.

Opening weather.com in konquoror yields a javascript error

Code:
Error: http://www.weather.com/: TypeError: Undefined value

and also announces

Code:
This page was prevented from opening a new window via javascript

So it would probably pay to file a bug as to firefox's error handling and contact the site asking that they review their javascript.
