Hi everyone,
After some no-gentoo time, i've decided to go back to the origin...
Last time i tried gentoo, it was early 2007 kernel & distro (i used minimal installation disc then).
A few days ago, when i installed gentoo again, it would'nt boot,
Here is my lspci
Code: |
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 945G/GZ/P/PL Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 81)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 945G/GZ/P/PL Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 81)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 01)
00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 3 (rev 01)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #1 (rev 01)
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #2 (rev 01)
00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #3 (rev 01)
00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #4 (rev 01)
00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01)
00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev e1)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 01)
00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller IDE (rev 01)
00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 01)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc R520 [Radeon X1800]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc R520 [Radeon X1800] (Secondary)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5789 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 11)
04:02.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)
04:02.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)
|
And the SATA Driver, according to it, is:
Code: |
808627c0 Yes Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller IDE ata_piix
|
How should i configure my kernel to get gentoo boot?
Thank's _________________

Device Drivers --->
SCSI device support --->
<*> SCSI disk support
<*> Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers
[*] ATA ACPI Support
[*] ATA SFF support
<*> Intel ESB, ICH, PIIX3, PIIX4 PATA/SATA support
|
You can add other drivers like scsi cdrom support, but this should be sufficient for booting..
Don't forget to edit your grub.conf and add root=/dev/sdYX as kernel option, where /dev/sdYX as your / partition... |

Hi!
I have a similar Problem on a Dell XPS Laptop with the same driver. My system boots at most every fourth try.
My Chipset is a ICH8M but maybe its the same problem with the driver and it will help to find a solution.
The kernel boot stops here:
Code: | ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx
ICH8M: IDE controller (0x8086:0x2850 rev 0x02) at PCI slot 0000:00:1f.1
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1f.1[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
ICH8M: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
ICH8M: IDE port disabled
|
and sometimes its resumed with this:
Code: | ide0: BM-DMA at 0x6fa0-0x6fa7, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:PIO
Probing IDE interface ide0...
hda: Optiarc DVD+/-RW AD-7640A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hda: host max PIO4 wanted PIO255(auto-tune) selected PIO4
hda: UDMA/33 mode selected
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
|
I seem it helps to push the cd eject button prior the boot process so the cd-drive is "active and at work" on kernel probe.
Maybe your problem is the same?
Greetings
Claas |
